Discover Sol7 Restaurant & Bar

Walking into Sol7 Restaurant & Bar at 1717 Allen Pkwy 7th Floor, Houston, TX 77019, United States feels like stepping into a rooftop hideaway you somehow didn’t know the city had. I first came here after a long week of covering Houston’s dining scene for a local food blog, and I was honestly expecting just another pretty skyline view with average plates. What I got instead was a menu that made me stay for dessert even though I swore I was on a “just one drink” mission.

From the moment the elevator doors opened, the vibe hit: soft lounge music, floor-to-ceiling windows, and those bold sunset views that make everyone reach for their phone at the same time. The bar team works with the precision you’d expect from a place that actually trains staff rather than just handing out a recipe card. My go-to drink there is their mezcal cocktail that blends citrus and house-made syrup. According to the National Restaurant Association, 61% of diners are more likely to revisit a restaurant that offers unique beverages, and this spot absolutely proves that stat.

The menu leans upscale but stays approachable. Think shareable plates, prime cuts, fresh seafood, and sides you don’t feel guilty ordering. One night I watched a server explain their dry-aging process to a curious couple at the next table. They age certain steaks in a controlled environment for several weeks to concentrate flavor and tenderize the meat, a technique often recommended by chefs from the Culinary Institute of America. I ordered the ribeye that night, and it had that buttery texture you only get from proper aging, not shortcuts.

What really surprised me was the attention to dietary needs. I’ve reviewed dozens of Houston locations where vegetarian dishes feel like an afterthought. Here, the plant-based options are thoughtful, not filler. A friend of mine, who follows a pescatarian diet, ordered the roasted cauliflower with tahini and chimichurri and called it better than any main dish she’d had all week. Real-world feedback like that sticks with you more than any polished ad copy.

The reviews online back this up. On platforms like Yelp and Google, people consistently mention the friendly staff and fast turnaround times, even on packed weekends. That’s no small feat when you’re dealing with high-rise elevator traffic and full dining rooms. A former general manager I interviewed for a hospitality feature once said that anything under a 20-minute ticket time in a rooftop restaurant is impressive. Every visit I’ve had here has beaten that benchmark.

Of course, no place is perfect. Parking around Allen Parkway can be tricky during events, and while valet is available, it fills quickly. I also noticed that some seasonal items rotate off the menu faster than expected, so if you fall in love with a dish, it might not be there next month. That’s the trade-off of a kitchen that actually cooks with what’s freshest rather than freezing everything.

What makes this restaurant memorable isn’t just the food or the skyline, though both are standout. It’s the feeling that the team cares about consistency. The American Customer Satisfaction Index reports that service quality is the top factor in restaurant loyalty, and you feel that here when the same bartender remembers your favorite cocktail or a server checks in just enough without hovering.

Whether you’re planning a birthday dinner, a date night, or simply want a rooftop spot that doesn’t treat locals like tourists, this place delivers. It blends the polish of a fine-dining venue with the relaxed tone of a neighborhood diner in the sky, making it one of those rare Houston restaurants you recommend without hesitation.

  • I just celebrated my birthday at Sol 7 (located in The Thompson Hotel). It was PERFECT! Our event began in the 'library' of the hotel reception area. BEAUTIFUL. Signature cocktails were served as guests arrived. After about 30-40 minutes we moved to the outdoor patio area of Sol 7. Everyone enjoyed passed appetizers - Paella arancini, quail poppers, blue cheese & fig tarts, Spanakopita. Delightful! The chef did a fabulous job. Little works of art! Our dedicated bartender was great. She served our requested bubbles, wines and beers. When she was not busy she circulated and offered our guests additional drinks. The view of downtown from the 7th is stunning. Lots of great pictures were taken. Later in the evening we offered our guests a 'slider' bar for late night munchies. Beef patties, pulled pork, brisket and TRUFFLE fries. The fries were not missed by anyone! Simply, the food and service was outstanding! I understand that the restaurant is now under the management of the hotel. The menu we were offered is new and the food is simply delightful. If you are looking for a fun celebration location you won't be disappointed. Olia will expertly help you plan your event down to the last detail! We did stay overnight at the hotel - don't miss this stunning hotel and all it has to offer! THANK YOU Sol 7 & Olia for the perfect celebration with longtime friends!

  • This restaurant is great place to dine with a great view of the skyline. The employees were very attentive and responsive to all service needs. The food was excellent. I had the Smash Burger with Truffle fries. I will return.

  • We went here for lunch. We sat outside since the weather was amazing. There’s a great view of the skyline and the decor was very pretty. We had the salmon Caesar salad with some mocktails and both were great. I’d definitely recommend coming here for an evening out or a bite for lunch!

  • I’ve been to Sol 7 in Houston twice now, and both times were such a great experience that I had to leave a review! It’s quickly become one of my favorite spots to go with friends, especially for brunch. The place itself is beautifully designed, modern, stylish, and welcoming, and the vibe is just right whether you’re going for a casual outing or something a bit more special. The view of the city is absolutely breathtaking. Whether you’re sitting indoors near the windows or out on the patio, you get this stunning skyline backdrop that really elevates the whole experience. It’s a perfect setting for catching up with friends, taking photos, or just enjoying the moment. The brunch menu is sweet and short, which I actually loved. It makes it easy to choose, and everything we tried was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The drinks were just as impressive: great presentation, well-balanced flavors, and definitely worth a toast or two. If you’re looking for a chic, high-vibe brunch spot in Houston with great views, good food and drinks, and excellent service, Sol 7 is a must. I’ll definitely be back again!

  • 4.3 stars. Beautiful dining area in the lobby of the Thompson Houston. Breakfast was very enjoyable for my wife, our youngest son and me. The prices are reasonable. Service was good. Slight ding for the basket of assorted pastries ($12). Both the danish and Mexican bread were underwhelming. Chilaquiles were wonderful as wife commented that next time she’d order it instead of the Eggs Benedict. Added perk for Globalists is the inclusion of breakfast too.

  • Sol7 wins for the best view of Houston’s skyline! I absolutely loved my time here from the experience at valet to the hotel concierge. The staff was quite friendly, however, there were a few hiccups for me. I felt like my food was a little cold. I didn’t love the food here and had a chance to try a couple different things since I came with some friends. I did like their truffle fries! Drinks were nice! Come here to enjoy drinks and the lovely view. They had a DJ outdoors but we weren’t able to enjoy the music due to being late for our initial outdoors reservation. The team did accommodate us and eventually sat us outside which I did appreciate.
